Teacher and other school staff's involvement is an important part of supporting a child or teen with Selective Mutism. Understanding what SM is and isn't can greatly improve the progress the student is able to achieve. It is also important for the staff to understand the current communication goals of the student and to not push too fast, too soon. Through School Training, Kelly teaches behavioral techniques based on the student's needs such as systematic desensitization, shaping, successive approximations. As a parent of a child who has overcome SM, Kelly knows first hand how important school staff involvement is to give students the best chance at being successful at school.
